SAL PIRO, QUEEN FOR A DAY, AS THE ICE PALACE CELEBRATES SAL’S SIXTY-ITH BIRTHDAY!
                                             Photos by jeannie

Pine’s Valerie Perez shares the Royal Box with Sal looking very much like Queen for a Day
The tribute video of Sal through his 20 years with the Ice palace showed a very animated man – in various modes of Dame Edith – and bio tidbits interspersed throughout referenced Sal’s fascination and expertise with Scrabble and his dedicati9n and close association with the Rocky Horror Show

The cast of adorers : in performance , Dallas DuBois, Dell Harbin, Ginger Moore ,Gusty Winds, Rose Levine, Brandon Cutrell, Porsch, Charity, Philomena, Bella, The Mamas & The Papas, Ginger Moore; in amusing  anecdotes: Valerie Perez, Dominic De Santis, the Lifeguard Laurie,  the Freedner Twins, , Panzi, Ariel Sincair, and Shannon Liguori (Sal’s’ sister)

Dallas Du Bois delivered a rousing rendition of “I Can’t Do It Alone”

Panzi , in a rare moment au natural onstage warned “every time Sal asks me to talk he doesn’t talk to me for months…I’ve know him for 30 years…he is responsible for many magic moments here like getting Rose Levine and Jeannie Lieberman on the same stage…we have a love/hate relationship since his 40th birthday”

Rose & Sal go back together since 1989

Our own Lady Gaga (Denise in her latest incarnation)

With a little help from Login Hardcore

It’s the fifth season for Broadway Belter Brandon Cutrell known for his show time ballad for Miss Fire Island as he sang “I Wish I could Go Back to College” (don’t we all)

Dominic – “thank you for all the support you have given the Arts Project”
(there were many videos with Dominic through the years on the tape)

Mommas & Poppas (Linda Dickerman, Barbara Hirsch, Lynn Belensky & Pat Wagnis) reprise their favorite medley –

Led the crowd in a happy sing-a-long

(just watch Linda she’s in heaven)

The Freedner twins, Ruth and Susan, were in every show Sal directed – Ruth thanking him again for “Mr. Cellophane…My best solo number” joked about their index cards for each show. Their first show was “Who Killed Rose Levine?”

Philomena spent 35 years with Sal

..and had some choice words for him

Valerie Perez, honored to share his box, talked of their long association

Sal talked Bella into entering the Miss Fire Island contest all those years ago
Singing her infamous “Middle Aged Woman” song (“can’t remember shit, sweaty hot flashes but (below) is dry”)…don’t mess with my social security…”
“I wish you many more but, Sal, don’t ever ask me to do this again!”

Ginger Moore Miss Fire island 2005 shows off in ”These Boots are Made for Walkin’”

The ever odd Gusty Winds in her scary Scaramouch number with………

…and without her wig  “One of the first people. I met 15 years ago”,

Infamous legend, the first Miss Fire Island   Miss Charity  “I adore this man”
“I have been here all the 20 years he has been here”

Dedicating her song to his sexual preference “Bug Fat Daddy”

Porsche blew the house down in her usual superbly talented manner

after a video montage and tribute to the closeness’ of Sal and his sister Shannon Langoria, she came up and told he changed her life – it was very touching “You gave me your hand and an open heart and I love you forever for that”

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU............”

Sal thanked the cast – to Ariel, (so fleet of foot show was always outside my frame) , “Ariel has been my rock for 15 years” Thanks Dennis McL for making him manager- special thanks to Chuck in the Booth

………… “WE ALL LOVE YOU, THAT’S WHY WE ARE HERE”

Of course what would the evening be without a performance by Dame Edith and her “boys”!!!

…here’s to another 20 with the Ice Palace!
